Reading Fluency TEKs:
Reading/fluency: The student reads with fluency and understanding in texts at appropriate difficulty levels.
Reading/variety of texts: The student reads widely for different purposes in varied sources.
*Any book can be read, recorded and converted into an audio file to upload into your mp3 player (assign high level readers projects to record lower level readers or check out your SPED Department to see if you can use their Kurzweil software. With this softwaryou can scan a book and the software will create an audio file).
Readers Theater (pdf): (Word doc) Students practice and read out loud an assigned play or choral reading passage.
Record and Reflect: Students record a reading passage and (after modeling and teaching them the rubric criteria) then listen and critic their own reading fluency. This activity is used best along with the Reading Model Activity below.
Reading Model Activity: Students listen to a model of a reading passage (for our reading curriculum teachers download the assigned reading file (from below) onto student’s iPODs). They can either listen without following along or follow along with their book. After the student has listened several times and is ready, he will record himself reading the passage or book. Then he will listen to his recording. At this he can use the above Record and Reflect to critic his reading fluency.
